Thank you to Kellie for the twenty-first post in our Me and My Connecta series, where happy babywearers help us spread the Connecta love by telling us all about their experiences.
Which Connecta(s) do you have?
We have a standard Connecta in Wonderland and a toddler size in Hedgehog.
Why did you choose a Connecta to carry your baby?
We had a stretchy which we used with Billy until just before his first birthday and both my partner Tom and I loved the closeness of babywearing. Our stretchy lived in our change bag and came everywhere with us. As Billy grew heavier we initially looked at using a woven wrap as it seemed like the closest thing to our much loved stretchy – and we hadn’t got on with a high street buckled carrier we had been given when Billy was small. I hired a woven from our local sling library but we struggled to get the hang of it and it seemed to take up so much more space in our bag. Our library consultant showed us a range of SSCs and recommended the connecta when we said we wanted something compact and easy to carry around.
I was really happy with the range of designs as I wrongly thought that buckle carriers would all be a bit boring and look the same. It took me ages to pick the right one as there were so many Tom and I liked. We were really lucky that the design we settled on, Wonderland, was in stock in the petite sized option, which has been really helpful for my small frame as it allows me to get it really tight and snug. When it arrived it was love at first sight! I wish that we had used it earlier as I think another great feature of the Connecta is the ability to adapt it to fit small babies too, but with baby number two due in just a few days we will soon get to test our Wonderland out on a newbie!!
What is your favourite thing about your Connecta?
There are so many things I love about our Connecta – I find it so comfortable and easy to wear and I love that I can pack it away into our change bag for whenever tired toddler legs need some ‘ups’ – but most of all I love how much Billy loves it. He loves being high up and able to talk to us about the world around – and the sleepy dust still works even now at nearly 3. Having those lovely sleepy snuggles is one of the best things about babywearing.
When do you find your Connecta most useful?
I have been most grateful for our Conencta whenever we go away on holiday. It is great being able to wear Billy at busy airports to keep him safe and close so he can’t run off anywhere, and we don’t have to bother taking a pram away on holiday with us which is a major bonus when already juggling all the luggage a toddler requires!! Being able to go ‘off road’ is especially helpful on holidays too.
The Connecta has also been a godsend at weddings or other big events – Billy can get shy around crowds of people but being up in the Connecta works its magic and he is soon chatting away to everyone!
Share a photo of a favourite Connecta moment – tell us the story!
The photo above of Billy and I was taken on holiday in Greece last September – we had just climbed up to a beautiful hilltop monastry and were taking in the view before descending down the other side of the hill to a coastal town. Shortly after this photo the heavens opened and we had to run down in the pouring rain – Billy thought it was hilarious as he took shelter under the Connecta hood (as you can see in this photo!)
The one below of Tom and Billy is one of many similar photos we have taken whilst walking on the Downs. Living on the Sussex Coast between beautiful hills and pebble beaches means most of our walks are not very pram friendly, and the Connecta allows us to get out and about freely.
This is the last post in our current Me and My Connecta series – look out for new opportunities to share the Connecta love in the new year! Thank you to everyone who has contributed over the past few months. It has been wonderful to read your stories.
