I never really understood why the Solarweave Connecta was quite so popular before. Sure, the UV protective fabric was super sensible, but would it really make enough difference to be worth having a whole other carrier to use in the summer? Having got my hands on a Preschool Solarweave to take on our recent holiday to Lanzarote, I can confirm that the answer to that question is a resounding YES!
The real beauty of the Solarweave for us was just how easy it was to stuff into a bag so we would have it handy whenever we needed it. I had thought that my other Connectas were pretty lightweight, but this one took packability to a whole new level. From hand luggage on the aeroplane to a rucksack when we were exploring the island, and even my handbag when we went out for the evening – there was no excuse not to have the Solarweave with us wherever we went.
This is particularly handy now my son is three. He doesn’t need to be carried all that often any more, but when we’re travelling or out and about there are inevitably times when he just needs some quiet time and a cuddle. That was especially true when we went on a trek into the national park to explore the volcanoes – it was all a bit too much for his little legs, but having the Connecta to hand meant we could keep on going even when he was ready for a rest.
As we continued on our adventures he was so comfy snuggled up next to daddy that he fell asleep – it’s not every day you get to take a nap in a caldera!
Another real bonus to the Solarweave is how easy it is to clean. We decided, in our infinite wisdom, to take advantage of our holiday to take the plunge with potty training. There were, of course, several accidents along the way. And one of these, inevitably, happened when I was wearing him. But it wasn’t too much of a disaster: a quick scrub in the sink and an hour in the sun and the Connecta was ready to use again.
I’m hoping that particular incident isn’t going to be recurring too often, but it is definitely pretty handy to know that I can wash (and dry) my Solarweave so easily – especially with the amount of camping we have planned this summer.
In fact with everything we have planned over the next few months, I can see our Solarweave getting an awful lot of use. It really is the very best summer time carrier – for babies and beyond.
