With Father’s Day coming up this Sunday, we wanted to take the opportunity this week to celebrate all of the wonderful babywearing dads out there. Thanks to Leigh for this lovely post.
My son is three and a half and is big. Big, tall, heavy, strong with a mean right hook and a kick like a mule. And I miss the long, sleepy cuddles that wearing him meant in the past.
I have worn him since he was tiny, in a stretchy wrap, and in a variety of slings before we discovered the Connecta and it all became so comfy and easy.
I miss the long, leisurely, easy walks with his little head poking out looking at the world, looking at my face, listening to me whispering sweet nothings and my interpretations of the world to him.
He doesn’t want to be worn so much nowadays. Often it’s when he is over-tired and fights it. But we still get our moments.
I feel his strong little hands grab my shirt and body under the sling, and feel him nuzzle in. A little boy now, no longer a baby. Less likely to fall asleep for long stretches of time, but more likely to suddenly sit up, look me in the face and ask me a stunningly insightful question that will cause me to laugh out loud in delight.
It’s a rarer gift, these toddler/little-boy carries, but I love them just as much.
Make sure you check out our other Father’s Day posts this week, including this one from Tom and a final one at the weekend where we’ll be hearing from lots more babywearing dads! We are also celebrating with a very special giveaway. Click below for more details…
