The arrival of a new baby is a joyous time for every family, but it can bring upheaval too – especially for older siblings. One of the most important things in those early days and weeks is finding ways for everyone to bond with the newest member of the family. And if the age gap is big enough this can be a perfect time for your older child to discover the magic of babywearing – under supervision of course!
Zoe, who has written for us before about her family’s love of babywearing, says her daughter Mai (seven when her son Jude was born) has loved carrying her little brother using a sling. Zoe explains “it is safer too as she doesn’t have to support his whole weight in her arms” adding that “one great thing about the Connecta is how small it can fit due to crossing the straps”.
Anne agrees, sending us this lovely picture of her seven year old who asked if he could carry his four month old baby brother. She says “he loved being able to hold him close and safe. This was a year ago – he has now progressed to back carrying ( with a little help). They both enjoy the closeness and the bond it gives them.”
Sarah, one of our regular contributors, has written about how the Connecta helps forge brotherly bonds between her sons. She explains “Charlie’s oldest brother now lives away at university and when he comes home it is time for the boys to catch up. The denim Connecta suits them both really well I think.”
Emma’s nine year old daughter Sasha is a convert to babywearing too: in this picture she’s carrying her ten day old brother Isaac for the first time. Emma says “we bought a petite strap Connecta specifically for her to be able to carry him. I think she may be a sling consultant in the making!”
It is so lovely to see such proud big sisters and brothers building bonds with the help of Connecta, setting the foundations of strong attachment for many years to come.
