I came to baby wearing through a group of ladies on Facebook who I grew close with, these ladies also cloth bummed their babies (something we had been talking on-line about for months before the babies were born) and baby wearing to me, seemed to just make sense. It was totally up my street and in line with how I wanted to bring up our son. I wanted him close, I wanted to him to feel loved and secure and I wanted to feel him next to me…after all I had been carrying him for 9 months, losing my bump when he was born was like losing a limb…..but baby wearing gave me my ‘bump’ back.
I used a few different types of ‘sling’ I tried wrapping and didn’t get on with it, I personally found it a faff and quite complicated and I didn’t really like how it looked (vein I know, but we all have our own style) so I tried a mei-tei type wrap, which was better, but again the wrapping of the straps frustrated me and I still couldn’t really find anything that I loved and knew I would use all of the time.
It took me 5 months to find my perfect carrier and it was by chance that I saw one used at a sling library. Buckles….fab – no wrapping..just click, adjust and you’re good to go, the straps weren’t too imposing on what you were wearing and didn’t restrict shoulder movement as I had found with the wrap type carriers. Style….absolutely. At the time I didn’t realise that this carrier came in all sort of variations and colours and someone like me who is very demanding when it comes to pattern/style and also indecisive with changing my mind on things like this, I was delighted to have come across Connecta Baby Carriers.
I went on-line and Googled Connecta, had a look through the patterns they had and I knew that I really loved the Oscha Roses wraps…but seeing as I couldn’t get on with wrapping I was so excited to have found that Connecta do wrap conversion carriers! I found my Oscha Roses Capulet and it was love! Within in a few days it was on my doorstep and that was the moment where baby wearing changed for me.
I went from being an occasional and slightly awkward baby wearer to a ‘my goodness that baby is always attached to you’ confident baby wearer. The dog got out everyday, the housework got done, food shopping was a breeze and best of all my son loved it….literally every time he was in that carrier he fell asleep….teething? No problem…fast asleep. Temperature? No problem, adjust his clothing put him in the carrier…fast asleep. Cold? No problem….fast asleep in fact, fast asleep quicker than he would in his cot because he was upright and could breathe!
Baby wearing = perfect baby cuddles it took a while to build up the stamina to wear a buckled SSC (Soft Structured Carrier) as one thing that wraps did offer me, was the option of spreading the weight across my back over a wider area, but a few days of wearing my son in the Connecta and I was absolutely fine…and the looks! The looks of wonderment at the beautiful pattern, the sweet baby asleep on my chest..I even had people stop in the street and ask me where I got my baby carrier because they loved the pattern and how discreet the straps were under cardi’s and coats. So this is where the love affair started with Connecta…and boy, did it continue to grow as you will see from my future posts!
