With 14 weeks and counting until the next baby (boy!) arrives, it’s got me thinking about how on earth I am going to keep up my day to day routine, keep my toddler happy and not make him feel left out, carry on with our weekly activities such as joining friends at parks and wildlife centres with a two year old and a newborn.
I won’t be the first, nor the last mother to start panicking about these aspects of adding another to the brood, however the prospect is still scary! My husband and I had a few (heated at times!) discussions on whether or not we needed a double buggy for a toddler that really doesn’t walk very far yet and a newborn baby – these discussions were very common and then came the realisation that we would probably be buying a double that will be fully utilised for perhaps 6 -9 months until our toddler probably won’t want to be going into a buggy any more…so it would be a waste of money.
Luckily, my favourite baby accessory is still on hand to save us (I hope!) as we plan to babywear and use the buggy that we already have (I’ll be taking note of the Newborn instructions on the blog!)! It will mean me taking a standard and a toddler Connecta out and about with me so that I can switch and swap each child between the Connecta and buggy, depending on when the toddler requests/requires a ride in the buggy/needs suitable restraint when trying to run into the nearest road, or lake or ditch…
Even my husband is excited about the prospect of wearing our eldest son more…he loves back carrying him in the Harris Tweed Connecta and equally my son absolutely loves nothing more than a ride on daddy’s back – handy. I am excited about having another small (light!!!!) bundle of squish to carry again…to savour those post milk smiles, those soft, gentle snores, the gratification that he wants to be close to his Mummy……I’m also excited that I get to use a Connecta again that so far is my absolute favourite – my Capulet Roses for those grey colder days and I am super excited to use the new Liberty Capal on those days where I feel a bit brighter and lighter….I’ve been known before to take two different standards out with me and to switch between feeds/sleeps/coffee stops! After all….with so many stunning designs in the range of Connecta’s – why limit yourself?!
So here’s to those days when I’m tearing my hair out wondering what to do with a terrible two’s tornado toddler and a crying newborn and when I suddenly remember my Connecta cuddles can solve my problems. Here’s to the Autumn/Winter, which will come around in a flash (let’s face it the weather of recent is tricking us all into thinking it’s Halloween next week) and all four of us can enjoy an off-piste dog walks through the crispy leaves with a baby on my front and a toddler on my husband’s back. And finally, here’s to Connecta for allowing us families to carry on a level of normality, in style and in comfort.
