We spent most of the festive period over at my folks’ place this year: catching up with family and friends, getting a bit of much needed rest and relaxation and making the most of the crisp sunny days.
One of the highlights was getting to spend some quality time with my gorgeous new niece – still not quite four months old, and so full of wonder at the world. My brother and sister in law have enjoyed keeping her close through babywearing, and are particularly enjoying our old tweed Connecta. My niece seems to like it too, and I had the privilege of getting in some Connecta cuddles with her whilst her mum had a bit of a rest.
It was quite a different babywearing experience from the one I’ve got used to with my now four year old… He doesn’t need to be carried so much any more of course, but there are moments when our preschool Connecta is an absolute lifesaver.
New Year’s Day was one of those: we all went for a walk to the pub – a very hilly walk on narrow lanes. He enjoyed it for a while, but was soon struggling to keep up with the grown-ups, so out came the Connecta!
We’re finding that our Solarweave, even though it’s designed for summer, makes the perfect year round preschool carrier: it folds up almost to nothing to squish into a bag or even a pocket, so we always have it there when we need it. Just brilliant for winter walks!
(If you’re keen to get out more with your Connecta in the winter then check out our post on cold weather babywearing to help you do it comfortably and safely.)
Back at my parents’ house I was reminded just how invaluable babywearing is indoors with a teeny one. The older kids were all tucked up in bed, whilst my niece happily dozed in her Connecta – and her mum wowed us all by making the perfect pizza dough!
It’s amazing what you can get done when you are wearing your baby…
