I recently took a trip with my husband, toddler and baby to the Connecta Boutique in Godalming. I have visited many times before: I live about 20 minutes away, and Godalming and the Connecta Boutique always have a lot to offer. This time we went in search of a toddler Connecta for my 2 and a half year old.
I had carried my eldest, Meredith, in a Connecta from when she was around three months old to when she was 14 months, stopping only due to pregnancy and the sickness and backache that came with it. When my second baby, Matilda, came along in October 2015 I found the Connecta to be even more invaluable. My toddler has a busy life and the Connecta provides an easy way for the baby to come along too and to always be close.
Something I didn’t predict though, was my toddler’s wish to be carried again once the baby arrived. I started to hear ‘Mummy, put me on your front’. My toddler wanted the closeness that me and the baby were having.
So that was why we popped along to Godalming and found ourselves looking at the array of Connectas on sale. Pulling out several I liked, I was told ‘No Mummy, not that one’ to several of my choices. I eventually settled on a FireSpiral wrap conversion toddler Connecta. I tried on a toddler Connecta whilst there to check it was the right size and we were good to go.
After a wander through Godalming and the farmers market, Meredith once again asked to be carried. This time we had a solution, and my husband put her on his back in the new Connecta. I carried the baby and we walked along at a much faster pace than usual with both toddler and baby content.
Since then I’ve carried Meredith a few times in the Connecta, when she has asked to be carried. For me and her the carrying is less about the convenience that it is with the baby and more about the closeness; though I can see that it will also be useful in the future at big events or in busy places, at the moment its a wonderful way for her to enjoy the closeness that her sister enjoys, especially when she’s feeling tired or fragile.
I’m sure we’ll be back in Godalming again when the time comes for a preschool Connecta!
