Although there’s nothing quite like sling cuddles with a newborn squish, for us the love of babywearing – or toddlerwearing – has extended far beyond those baby days. We have a nearly two year old, yet two years in the novelty hasn’t worn off for us, and the bonuses of babywearing continue to be massive parts of our parenthood journey.
Baby Lighty absolutely loves the sight of Mummy or Daddy getting one of our trusty Connectas ready, I think because he knows that it will mean an outing for him. He never complains about going in the sling, and sometimes asks to go in the sling without our prompting.
There are probably many reasons that he loves the sling as much as Mr Lighty and I do, and I’m sure that if his vocabulary allowed him to, he’d cite some of the below as the reasons to love toddlerwearing:
A Rest for Tired Toddler Legs
One of the biggest benefits of toddler wearing for us as a family is the fact that when Baby Lighty tires, we can pop him in the sling for a rest. Our family outings and holidays often involve a fair amount of walking, and Baby Lighty likes to join in with this as much as he can. But he’s only been walking for 8 months, and it’s not fair to expect him to be able to do as much as an adult can.
And that’s where the Connecta comes into its own. Once he does start to tire and asks us to pick him up, we in turn ask him if he wants to get in the sling. He’ll almost always say yes, and we can help him rest his tired legs at that point but still continue with our outing.
Of course, it’s much easier to fold up the Connecta and have it in the change bag at the ready than it is to lug about an empty buggy!
Hands Free Cuddles
Once our babies turn into toddlers with their own minds and their own personalities, it’s easy to forget that they are still really little and not much more than that tiny baby they once were. They still need their cuddles every now and again, and to feel safe within their world. Using the Connecta often allows us to keep our little one close whilst still going about our daily business.
A recent prime example of this emotional need being satisfied by the Connecta was when we had tradesmen in working on our heating. Baby Lighty was really wary of these strangers in his home at first, and just wanted to be held, while I needed to make the plumbers tea and generally make sure they were ok. I asked him if he wanted to go in the sling, to which he said yes, and all was well in his little world again once he had the closeness of Mummy Cuddles – and I still had my hands free to make that all important tea!
For naptime on the go with a toddler, nothing beats the sleepy dust of the Connecta for us. It’s great for those times when you’re out of your toddler’s routine, such as when you’re on holiday. If your toddler is anything like mine, they won’t want to miss out on a thing, especially if they’re somewhere exciting, but by popping them in the sling, the Connecta weaves its spell on often overtired little ones and they can replenish themselves ready for more adventures with a well-earned nap.
These are just our top three reasons that we continue to love our Connecta Baby Carriers; I know there are and will be many more moments of convenience and cuddles to come, and I’m excited to see where this toddlerwearing journey continues to take us!
